Edward Cowen, MD MHSc FAAD

Dr. Edward Cowen received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. He did his residency training in Dermatology at the University of Rochester where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Cowen completed a clinical research fellowship in the Dermatology Branch at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) while also obtaining a Masters’ Degree in Clinical Research through Duke University. He is currently Head of the NIH Dermatology Consultation Service and the recipient of the NIH Director’s Award and Outstanding Clinical Science Award. His primary research interest involves chronic graft-versus-host disease.

Dr. Cowen is a board certified dermatologist who has written over 70 scientific articles in the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Archives of Dermatology, and other peer reviewed journals. He is currently a Director of the American Board of Dermatology, serves as Section Editor for the Archives of Dermatology and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. He has additional appointments as Adjunct Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and Associate Professor of Dermatology at Georgetown University Medical Center and has given over 100 lectures locally, nationally, and internationally.
